A star football player from the 1960’s who went on to teach and coach the game in Utah is one of the Ottawa High School Hall of Fame inductees this year. Bob Burns graduated in 1967. He was the Pirates quarterback and threw for 1,567 yards during nine games. No other Pirate football player has beaten the record. In his college career, Burns was a wide receiver for the University of Illinois. In Utah, he earned several football coaching honors, in part for turning a struggling program into a champion team in just three years. Burns also coached basketball and tennis.
