Gerald “Jerry” Joseph Meyer, 67, of Earlville, passed away on Sunday, January 2, 2022 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at St. Theresa Church in Earlville, with Rev. Jeff Windy, officiating. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. on Friday, January 7, 2022 at the church. Burial will take place at St. Columba Cemetery on a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa. Due to current State of Illinois guidelines, face coverings will be required.

Jerry was born March 25, 1954 in Ottawa to Leroy and Marjorie (O’Donnell) Meyer. He married Cheryl Olson on September 24, 1983 in Thor, IA. Jerry received his B.S. from Illinois State University. He was a member of St. Theresa Church, where he served on the council, served on the Earlville School board and later as president, was a member of the Lion’s Club, the LaSalle County Farm Bureau, and served as a trustee on the board for St. Theresa Cemetery. Jerry farmed his entire life. He enjoyed golfing, being outside, raising livestock and farming. He was a fan of the Cubs, the Bears, and the Bulls. More than anything, Jerry loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his mother, Marge Larkin, of Earlville; wife, Cheryl; four children, Megan (Jeremy) Cantlin of Earlville, Jennifer (Tony) Ayala of Sandwich, Christina (Sean) O’Connor of Wheaton, and Joseph Meyer of Earlville; seven grandchildren Taylor, Christopher, and Wyatt Joseph Cantlin, Connor, Hailey, and Teagan Ayala, and Grace O’Connor; a sister, Margaret “Peg” (Patrick) O’Brien of Woodstock; a brother, Daniel (Debra) Meyer of Galva; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Leroy and step-father, Vincent “Ben” Larkin.
