Thelma Battles, 100, of Ottawa, passed away on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at Pleasant View.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at the Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa, with Pastor Sandy Smith, officiating. Burial will follow at Harding Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home. Due to current State of Illinois guidelines, face coverings will be required.

Thelma was born on June 18, 1921 in Leland to Thomas and Jennie (Engelsen) Seward. She married Robert Battles on June 8, 1941 in Harding United Methodist Church. He passed away on January 16, 1993. Thelma lived in Harding all of her life. She worked at Carson Pirie Scott and also as a farm wife. Thelma loved spending time with her family and was an avid card player.

Thelma is survived by two children, Ronald (Carolyn) Battles of Ottawa and Rick (Patty) Battles of Colchester, IL; a son-in-law, Jerry Berggren; seven grandchildren, John Battles, Matt (Nikki) Battles, Brittany Hrvatin, Kimberly (Dustin) Pendell, Nikki (Tim) Mealiff, Lindsay (Adam) Schwerer, and Scott (Amy) Berggren; 18 great grandchildren; and many great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; daughter, Patsy Berggren; two infant daughters Barbara and Bonnie; three brothers, Howard, Maynard, and Arnold Seward; a sister, Helen Schneider; and granddaughter-in-law, Opal Battles.
