Starting today both Marquette and Ottawa High School boys basketball teams will begin their Holiday Tournament journeys. 

 

The Ottawa Pirates will take on Hinckley Big Rock in round one at the 58th Annual Plano Christmas Classic hosted by Plano High School. Game time is at 10:30 this morning.  Sean Frey and Bryer Lehr will be there for the call of the game.

Also today at the Plano Classic:  Morris will take on Lisle, Streator versus Kaneland, Mendota will face Longwood and Newark will take on Peoria Notre Dame.

 

Tonight Marquette starts The Last Marseilles Holiday Tournament hosted by Marseilles Grade School. Starting next season it will be known as The Marquette Christmas Tournament and will be held at Bader Gym. 

The Crusaders begin their path to the Championship by taking on Gardner South-Wilmington also known as GSW. Game time is at 6:30pm.  Listen to Isaac Missel and Andrew Evola with all the play by play action.

Other games today at the Marseilles Tournament: Woodland versus Somonauk, St Bede takes on Kewanee, Seneca will face Wilmington, Serena versus Dwight and Earlville takes on Reed-Custer.

 

The Chicago Bears scored 11 points in the fourth quarter to complete their comeback over the Seahawks with a 25-24 win in Seattle.  Damiere Byrd caught a two-point conversion with just over a minute to play to seal the victory for The Bears who are now 5-and-10 with two games remaining in the season.

 

Dallas crushed the Washington Football Team 56-14 on Sunday Night Football in Arlington. The Cowboys improved to 11-and-4 with the win.  Washington dropped to 6-and-9. 

 

Tonight on Monday Night Football The Saints welcome the Dolphins to the Big Easy in a battle of two teams fighting for their playoff lives. 

 

In college football

Both The Military and Fenway Bowls were canceled Sunday after teams were forced to pull out due to issues with COVID.  Boston College was slated to face East Carolina in the Military Bowl, but the Eagles had over 40 players out due to COVID, injuries, opt-outs and transfers.  Virginia faced similar issues after multiple positive COVID-19 tests before they were scheduled to play SMU in the Fenway Bowl. 

 

Miami will not be competing in this year’s Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl against Washington State due to COVID.  Miami Officials said the number of cases affecting the team’s roster has made it impossible to play because the Hurricanes don’t have enough players.  Washington State is working with the Pac-12 and the Sun Bowl on finding a replacement opponent. 

 

The Chicago Bulls extended their winning streak to three games after topping the Indiana Pacers 113-105 in Chicago.  With the win, the Bulls improved to 20-and-10 and will look to extend their streak to four games tonight in Atlanta against the Hawks.

 

After agreeing to begin their holiday break this past Wednesday, the NHL pushed the regular season back one day.  As a result, all 14 games that were originally scheduled for Monday have been postponed. The Blackhawks will return to the ice on Wednesday against the Winnipeg Jets.
