LaSalle County continues to participate in Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Community Ratings System. Director of Land Use Brian Gift says the program encourages community floodplain management practices that can exceed the minimum requirements of the National Flood Insurance Program.
Gift says the county has adopted a couple of measures. He says right now the county is a rating of eight out of nine. The highest rating is a one.
He says the county could adopt stricter ordinances or do additional studies to get the county to a lower rating. Right now homeowners with flood insurance in rural LaSalle County are saving 10% a year on their policy.
