One of the top stories of 2021 is the Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp playing their first year in Peru. The Pistol Shrimp are a part of the Prospect League and bring college players from all over the country to play baseball.
General Manager June Keeley explained where the name Pistol Shrimp came from, because the animal isn’t native to Illinois. Keeley says the more zany the name, the better.
The team is coming back for another season and will still play at Veterans Memorial Park. Owner John Jackiemiec says the team feels good about returning to Peru.
The team hasn’t released a schedule for next season yet.The prospect league team brings in college baseball players from all over the country to play in Peru. General Manager June Keeley says that some of the players came from around LaSalle County. Including Pitcher Jake Dahl from Peru.

Jake Dahl is a pitcher for the Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp.
Another player was Tresdon Rybarcyzk from Spring Valley, who played during the first season.
