At least four people were in a car that State Police tried to stop in LaSalle County early yesterday morning. So far, one is charged in connection with a 40-mile police chase that started in Peru and ended in Annawan.
State Police say 23-year old Shimund R. Jones sped away from a traffic stop on Interstate 80 just before 4am. He left the highway in western Bureau County and the car hit a tree. Troopers say three people got out of the car and ran, but all were caught.
Jones is accused of child endangerment, possession of a stolen vehicle, and aggravated fleeing and eluding. No charges were announced against the 18-year old woman and two underage girls also in the car.
