Current coronavirus cases climbed to 999, up from 898 last week in the LaSalle County Health Department’s weekly report. The department reported no fatal cases, so the figure remains at 354. But it logged 223 new cases and just 121 recoveries. Just over 20% of intensive care unit beds are available at hospitals in the region. That’s up slightly from last week.

The mix of results puts LaSalle County back in the Illinois Dept. of Public Health’s blue status. The county was in blue two weeks ago, but slipped back to orange last week. The color coding doesn’t really say how good or bad things are, just which direction they appear to be going.

About one in six new cases reported in LaSalle County during the last week are among children under age 13.

Correction: An earlier version of this story mistakenly said the blue status was conferred by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The CDC uses a different color code system. The IDPH put the county in blue status.
