Girls high school basketball.

At Somonauk’s Tim Humes Breakout tournament, LP beat Aurora Central Catholic 45-23.  Brooklyn Ficek finished with 26 points, five steals and had four assists for the Lady Cavaliers.

 

Also at the Breakout tournament Newark defeated Plano 43-23. For the Lady Norsemen KJ Friested  scored 16 points with six rebounds.

 

Couple results at the Falcon-Irish Thanksgiving Tournament. Serena defeated Herscher 44-36. Katie Baker finished with 16 points, eight rebounds and eight steals for the Lady Huskers

Seneca were winners over Hall 43-32. Kennedy Hartwig led the Lady Irish with 10 pts 

 

The Ottawa Bowling team were winners over Mendota. Nelson Brandt led the way for the Pirates with a 678 series score and high game 234 

The JV team also won with Adolfo Bustamante rolling a high game of 147.

 

Junior high Sports

The Marquette Academy girls 8th grade basketball team defeated their host Watham in the 2nd round of the conference tournament. Anna Hjerpe led the Lady Knights with 16 points.

 

The Marquette 7th grade girls also were winners in the conference tournament by beating Waltham 31-17. Anna Hjerpe led the Academy with 15 points.  Both Marquette teams will face Wallace in the Championship games tonight.

 

Both Shepherd girls basketball teams defeated Coal City.

The 8th Graders won 34-8. Mary Stisser scored 11 points for the Lady Rams.

The 7th Grade team won 16-14. Reese Purcell and Meredith Waldron each scored 6 points for Shepherd.

 

Elsewhere in Sports

The Bulls squandered a 63-48 halftime lead, falling to the Trail Blazers 112-107 in Portland.  Zach LaVine led Chicago in the loss with 30 points.  The Bulls  wrap up the trip tomorrow night against the Denver Nuggets. 

 

The Blackhawks earned their first road win of the season, posting a 4-2 victory in their inaugural meeting against the Seattle Kraken.  Seth Jones, Alex DeBrincat, Patrick Kane, and Jake McCabe all scored for the Hawks.  Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 31 shots in the win.  The Blackhawks visit the Oilers Saturday night.  

 

It will be a rematch of Super Bowl 51 on Thursday Night Football as the New England Patriots visit the Atlanta Falcons.  The 6-and-4 Patriots have yet to lose a game on the road so far this season.  The Falcons are in last place in the NFC South at 4-and-5.

 

In college football last night,  The NIU Huskies defeated Buffalo 33-27 in overtime.

 

 Major League Baseball News

The MLB announced their winners for the American and National League Cy Young award winners.  Toronto Blue Jays ace Robbie Ray was named the winner in the American League.  Milwaukee Brewers starter Corbin Burnes was named the winner in the National League.

The Cleveland Indians are officially changing their nickname to the Guardians on Friday.  The team announced the news Wednesday. Cleveland will begin selling Guardians gear later this week, and the club’s website and social media handles will transition to the Guardians moniker on Friday.
