The Ottawa and Morris hospitals earned A’s in the Leapfrog Group’s fall report on hospital safety. Each still had room for improvement. In some problem categories, no information was reported.

St. Elizabeth stands out for having doctors track medications in computers systems to warn of drug interactions and possibly wrong doses.

Leapfrog Group says none of the hospitals in Ottawa, Morris, Spring Valley, and Peru had information about MRSA infections. Morris has the best handle on C. diff, which infects the intestines, but it had no information about sepsis infection after surgery. St. Margaret’s Spring Valley didn’t handle either as well as Leapfrog thinks it should, but its Peru hospital is preventing sepsis well. St. Elizabeth reported some problems with C. diff, but at a rate better than average for all hospitals.
