Karen Cotton with Illinois American Water says a new leak task force was launched by the water company to find leaks that happen underground. Cotton says one city in southern LaSalle County has been one of the first areas the task force has looked.
She says in Streator a dozen underground leaks have been fixed and found in interesting places.
She says some other places leaks were found were in a storm drain and a mine shaft under the city. She says that the water company uses acoustic sensors to record sound overnight so it can’t be affected by traffic.
She says millions of gallons of water are being saved because of the task force.
