Last night Cairo Santos’ 65-yard field goal attempt fell well short as time expired, and the Bears were defeated 29-27 by the Steelers in Pittsburgh on Monday Night Football. The Bears rallied from a 20-6 deficit entering the fourth quarter and briefly held a 27-26 lead on Justin Fields’ 16-yard touchdown pass to Darnell Mooney with 1:46 remaining. Fields completed 17 passes for 291 yards with one touchdown and one interception, and he rushed for 45 yards on eight carries. The Chicago Bears dropped to 3-and-6 heading into their bye week.
The Bulls outscored the Nets 42-17 in the fourth quarter en route to a 118-95 win at the United Center. DeMar DeRozan led Chicago with 28 points. Zach LaVine added 24, and Ayo Dosunmu chipped in with 15 off the bench for the Bulls, who snapped a two-game skid and will host the Mavericks tomorrow night.

The Fighting Illini will host Jackson State tonight to open the NCAA basketball season. The Illini have posted an all-time record of 102-and-14 in season openers. Illinois enters the season as the tenth-ranked team in the polls. All the top 25 teams are scheduled to play tonight.
Illinois State starts their season tonight by hosting UNC Wilmington at the Redbird Arena. ISU finished last season 7-18.
Northern Illinois starts their season on the road at Washington. The NIU Huskies ended last season with a record of 3-16.
In junior high sports
The Marquette Academy girls basketball teams played their last game of the regular season at Peru Parkside.
The 8th graders won 27-17. Leading the way for the Lady Knights were Hunter Hopkins and Anna Hjerpe each scoring 9 points.
The 7th grade team won 37-5. Anna Hjerpe led the Academy with 13 points.
