Oglesby Fire Chief Ron Popurella says that there’s a shortage of firefighters at the fire department. The city made a new agreement with the department to raise the wages over four years, but Popurella says it only goes so far.
He says it is nice and shows some thanks for the work.
He says that the department is an on-call department meaning the firefighters get paid when they go a fire. He says many departments around LaSalle County are run that way.
He also says there has been a lot of discussion about how to get people to volunteer their time.
Popurella also says it’s not just the Oglesby Fire Department that having issues keeping firefighters.
