Seneca and Troy Grove are asking the North Central Illinois Council of Governments to send an application for a competitive grant.
The villages are applying for the Rebuild Downtown and Main Street program.
Mayor Jeff Olson says that the funding would be used to pave two parking lots downtown, upgrade sidewalks on Rt. 170 and fix lighting at on U.S 6.
Troy Grove Mayor Charles Mammen says the funding would knock down the old school house and renovate a community room near the old gymnasium.
Homeowners need to send a small short paragraph on how the project would enhance the community.
