The Federal Bureau of Investigation is helping investigate what happened to 25-year old Jelani Day when he was in the LaSalle-Peru area. Peru Police Chief Robert Pyszka says the FBI isn’t taking over the case though.
People who believe the Illinois State University student was murdered want more information. Pyszka says St. Rep. Kam Buckner emailed a letter mentioning “unsettling discrepancies and inconsistencies including with the analysis of surveillance video and the securing of the crime scene.” The chief says other than that, the Illinois House member hasn’t reached out to him to talk about the alleged problems.
A coroner’s report says Day drowned. The medical examiner reported no evidence of injury, attack, or disease but also noted the condition of Day’s body made for a less than ideal autopsy.
