Members of the caravan who were honoring Jelani Day ended up marching to the Illinois Valley YMCA.
Peru Police Chief Robert Pyszka says that wasn’t the original plan. The honoring was supposed to end on Water Street.
But the police worked with the Rainbow PUSH coalition so that they could march. Before the march started the Rev. Jesse Jackson spoke and prayed about bringing justice for Day.
Jelani’s mother Carmen Bolden-Day also says that people need to come forward.
Bolden-Day says that the areas where Jelani’s clothes, car and body were found doesn’t add up. The Coroners report says that Day drowned. Demonstrators say that Day was a great swimmer so he couldn’t have drowned like the report says. The marchers were also asking Attorney General Kwame Raoul to step in and investigate.
Bolden-Day says that people needed to see where this information is because it doesn’t add up.
There were more speeches that happened by the Rev. Jesse Jackson, his son and Jelani’s mother once they got to the Illinois Valley YMCA.
