Nicor Gas gave $5 million to the Salvation Army. The money will help people who’ve suffered big financial losses because of the pandemic and who are behind on their gas bills. It will pay up to $250 to a qualifying family every two years. It’s for families with incomes up to 400% of the federal poverty level. The program is called Shield of Caring.
