Tonight the Ottawa Pirates finish their season when they host Plano at King Field. Game time is at 7pm with Sean Frey and Bryer Lehr on 95.3 Jack FM and streaming on 953 JACK FM DOT COM.

 

On Saturday the Marquette Crusaders wrap up the regular season by taking on Fisher at Gould Stadium. Kickoff is at 1pm with Isaac Missel and Andrew Evola with all the play by play action on 93.5 and 1430 WCMY and online at 1430 WCMY DOT COM.

 

Other high school football scheduled tonight: LP is at Kaneland, Seneca travels to Dwight, Streator is at Coal City, Morris is home to face Sycamore and Hall is at Bureau Valley

 

There was high school football last night, St Bede won at home over Mendota 33-15. The Bruins finished the regular season at 7-2 and will find out Saturday night who their opponent will be in the playoffs.

 

The Ottawa tennis team competed at the Class 1A State Tournament in girls tennis. In singles, Ella Marvel won the first 2 matches but lost the third. Marvel will play later today in the consolation bracket.

 Sara Meyer lost both her matches on the day to finish the season.

The team of Kyleigh Olszewski and Jenna Smithmeyer came up short in their opening match, won the 2nd match but lost the 3rd to wrap up their season in doubles

 

Results in volleyball: Marquette were winners over Dwight at Bader Gym, LP lost to Sandwich and Newark defeated Geneseo. No results or information from Ottawa High School.

 

Elsewhere in sports

Chris Taylor smashed three home runs to lead Los Angeles to an 11-2 win over the Braves in Game Five of the NLCS. The Dodgers now trail the series 3-2.  Freddie Freeman drove in both of Atlanta’s runs with a two-run bomb in the first. 

 

The Astros return home tonight after winning two straight games over the Red Sox on the road and lead the series 3-2. The Red Sox plated only three total runs in the last two games of the series.

 

The Blackhawks early-season struggles continue after falling to the Vancouver Canucks 4-1 at the United Center.  Alex DeBrincat scored the lone goal for the Hawks. Kevin Lankinen made 21 stops in the loss. The Blackhawks host the longtime-rival Detroit Red Wings on Sunday.

 

The Chicago Bulls do battle with the Pelicans tonight in their home opener.  The Bulls opened the season Wednesday with a 94-88 win over the Pistons in Detroit.    

 

The Browns defeated the Broncos 17-14 in Cleveland on Thursday Night Football.

 

The Bears will visit Tom Brady and the defending Super Bowl champion Buccaneers Sunday in Tampa. The Bears are 3-and-3, the Bucs are 5-and-1.      

 

College football this weekend: The Illini are at Penn State, Notre Dame will host USC, Northwestern is at Michigan, Northern travels to Central Michigan and Illinois State is on the road at South Dakota.
