The Atlanta Braves beat the Dodgers 9-2 in Game Four of the NLCS to take a commanding 3-1 series lead. Eddie Rosario again starred for the Braves, homering twice and driving in four runs. His three-run blast in the ninth broke the game open. Atlanta used six pitchers and limited Los Angeles to only four hits. Julio Urias struggled for the Dodgers, surrendering five runs in five innings. Game Five is tonight in LA.
The Astros are one win away from another trip to the World Series. Houston rolled past the Red Sox 9-1 in Game Five of the ALCS in Boston. Framber Valdez earned the victory after allowing just one run over eight innings. Yordan Alvarez got the Astros on the board first with a solo home run in the second inning. Alvarez added a couple more runs for Houston in the sixth as part of a five-run inning.
Zach LaVine scored a game-high 34 points as the Bulls defeated the Pistons 94-88 in their season opener in Detroit. DeMar DeRozan posted 17 points in his first regular season game with Chicago, and Nikola Vucevic recorded 15 points and 15 boards. It is the first time since 2016 that the Bulls opened the regular season with a win. The Bulls face the Pelicans in their home opener tomorrow night.
The Chicago Fire defeated Cincinnati 4-3 at TQL Stadium in the MLS. The Fire face Real Salt Lake on Saturday in their final home match of the season.
The winless Blackhawks host the Vancouver Canucks tonight. The Hawks enter at 0-3-and-1 on the season. The Blackhawks fell 4-1 to the New York Islanders on Tuesday in their home opener.
Tonight on Thursday Night Football the Denver Broncos head to Cleveland to take on the Browns.
Over in the PGA, Round one of the Zozo Championship ended with Hiroshi Iwata on top of the leaderboard with a 7-under par.
In local sports
At the L-P Class 2A Regional semifinals in soccer. Sterling defeated LP 4-0. Ottawa lost to Streator 4-2. The Bulldogs will face Sterling on Saturday for the regional title.
Serena won at home over Gardner-South Wilmington in volleyball. Paige Sexton slammed 17 kills for the Lady Huskers.
In Junior High girls basketball
Marquette Academy were winners at both grade levels at JFK. The 8th graders won 31-9 Anna Hjerpe led the Lady Knights with 12 points with Hunter Hopkins adding 10 more.
The 7th grade team won 39-2, Morgan Collins led the way with 12 points and Hunter Hopkins scored 7 points in the Academy’s victory.
