Other high school football going on tonight: LP is home to battle Morris, Streator is at Wilmington, Seneca is hosting Clifton Central, St Bede is home to take on Hall and on Saturday Mendota will host Newman Catholic.
At the Class 1A regional boys soccer semifinal, Serena won a close one over DePue-Hall 2-1. The Huskers Tanner Faivre scored the winning goal with less than a minute left in the game. Serena will now face top-seeded Mendota today in the championship game.
Also in soccer, Streator won at home over LP 6-2. The Bulldogs Brady Grabowski scored 2 goals Landon Muntz, Jack Starkey, Noah Russow and Davey Ra-shid each scored a goal in the victory.
Results in volleyball
In the Tri-County Conference Tournament. The Woodland Warriors defeated Seneca to win the Championship title. Roanoke-Benson defeated Marquette in the third-place match.
Ottawa lost at home to Sycamore. Top performers for the Lady Pirates in the loss were Grace Landers with three kills, six digs, and five assists. Ryleigh Stevenson and Olivia Evola each had two aces.
Streator lost to Herscher at the Pops Dale Gymnasium. Mallory Goerne led the way for the Bulldogs with five kills and Abby Bedecker added seven points, two aces and four assists.
Seneca defeated both Streator and Marquette in a triangular matchup in cross-country. For the Lady Irish Evelyn O’Connor placed first, Marquette’s Maggie Jewett finished 2nd. Streator was led by Abby Pierce who placed 7th.
In the boys race, Seneca’s Austin Aldridge came in first, Streator’s Kody Danko came in second and Marquette was led by Maclane Ri-near-son who finished 6th.
Elsewhere in sports
The Dodgers are advancing to a second straight NLCS. Los Angeles defeated the Giants 2-1 in San Francisco in the winner-take-all Game Five of the NLDS.
Tonight is game one of the ALCS, the Astros will host the Boston Red Sox in Houston.
Despite exiting in the ALDS, the White Sox are bringing back manager Tony La Russa for next season. The White Sox finished 93-and-69 this season.
However, the St. Louis Cardinals are parting ways with their manager. The team let Mike Shildt go after he had just finished his fourth season with the team.
The Blackhawks visit the Devils tonight. The Hawks are looking to rebound from their season opening loss to the Avalanche on Wednesday.
The Bulls wrap up the preseason tonight at home against the Grizzlies. Chicago is 3-and-0 in exhibition play. The regular season starts Wednesday in Detroit against the Pistons.
The Sky host the Mercury tonight in game three of the WNBA Finals. The best-of-five-series is tied at 1. Phoenix took game two Wednesday, 91-86 in overtime.
