Today the White Sox start post-season action in Houston to take on the Astros in game one of the ALDS. Lance Lynn will get the start for the Sox. Pregame begins at 2:30 with the first pitch 3:07pm on 93.5 and 1430 WCMY. 

 

First baseman José Abreu’s status for game one is up in the air after battling flu-like symptoms in recent days. The White Sox say multiple tests confirmed the illness isn’t COVID-19-related.

 

The Cardinals season is over following a heartbreaking walk-off loss to the Dodgers in the National League Wild Card Game at Dodger Stadium.  Chris Taylor drilled a two-run homer off Alex Reyes in the bottom of the ninth to secure the win for LA.  T.J. McFarland was tagged with the loss.  Adam Wainwright did his part for St. Louis, allowing just one-run on four-hits over five-and-a-third innings.  Tommy Edman scored the Cards lone run in the first on a Max Scherzer wild pitch.     

 

The Chicago Sky are going to the WNBA Finals.  Sixth-seeded Chicago advanced with a 79-69 win over the Connecticut Sun in game four of the semifinals at Wintrust Arena.  The sky will face the winner of the other semifinal between the Las Vegas Aces and the Phoenix Mercury.    

 

The Bears are moving forward with rookie Justin Fields as the team’s starting quarterback.  Head coach Matt Nagy said Fields has worked hard and earned this opportunity. So far this season, Fields has completed 52 passes for 347 yards with two interceptions.  He has also rushed for 55 yards and one touchdown on 17 carries.

 

In Local Sports

Wednesday night results from the Little Ten Conference Volleyball Tournament:

Newark defeated Hiawatha, Serena were winners over Somonauk, Earlville defeated Leland and Indian Creek earned a victory over Hinckley-Big Rock.

 

Ottawa and Roanoke-Benson finished with a tie at two in soccer. For the Pirates, goals were scored by Jon Sczuzuk and Gio Resendez. Resendez’s goal was the 100th of his varsity career.

 

Streator finished 2nd at a quadrangular contest in Mendota. In the boys race, Kody Danko placed 1st overall and team mates Ryan Seaton  finished 6th and Chance Robart placed 9th for the Bulldogs.

For the girls, top performers for the lady bulldogs were Abby Pierce finishing in 8th and Lily Kupec placing 12th.

 

Junior High sports

Both Shepherd girls basketball teams defeated LaSalle Lincoln. The 8th grade Lady Rams won 40-4. Leading the way were Mary Stisser with18 points and Skylar Nodland adding 6 more in the win. The 7th grade team won 32-7. Ashlyn Gainere and Reese Purcell each scored 14 points in the Rams victory.
