The Ottawa Varsity tennis team defeated Coal City in a dual matchup. Winners for the Lady Pirates were Ella Marvel in Singles, The team of Kyleigh Olsweski and Jenna Smithmeyer, partners Rylee OFallon and Emma Cushing and the team of Madison Lineback and Emma Stumpf in doubles.
The JV team also defeated Coal City 4-1. Layne Krug and MaKenzie Eichelkraut won in singles. The duo of Mika Moreland and Peyton Bryson and the team of Adalyn Borowski and Bianca Sipula were winners in doubles.
Streator lost at home to Mendota in varsity tennis. Lucy Zavada won in singles in the Lady Bulldogs loss.
LP lost at home to Morris in varsity volleyball. For the Lady Cavaliers, Sarah Peters had three kills and five blocks, Madalyn Freeman finished with three kills and three blocks and Avery Urbanski contributed six assists and five digs in the loss.
Results from the Little Ten Conference Volleyball Tournament: Hiawatha defeated LaMoille and Leland were winners over DePue.
In the Interstate 8 Conference Tournament, Ottawa defeated Rochelle 3-0 to take 3rd place. Gio Resendez scored all three goals for the Pirates with an assist by Jon Sczuzuk.
In the Little Ten Conference Soccer Tournament, Serena defeated Hinckley Big-Rock 6-0. Carson Baker and Cam Figgins both scored two goals to lead the Huskers in the win.
Other results from the tournament: Newark-Seneca defeated Indian Creek 3-0, Earlville won in overtime over MSA 2-1 and Somonauk-Leland outscored DePue-Hall 7-1.
The Associated Press Top 10 polls for week seven in IHSA football were released and For Class 1A: Marquette is now ranked 10th and St Bede is ranked 7th. In Class 2A, Princeton came in 8th and in Class 5A Morris is ranked 4th.
Junior High sports
Both Shepherd teams defeated Dwight in girls basketball. The 7th graders won 34-3 with Ashlyn Ganiere and Meredith Waldron each scoring 12 points for the Lady Rams. The 8th grade team outscored Dwight 27-14 Belle Markey led the way with 8 points and Aubrey Sullivan scored 6 points in Shepherd’s victory.
