In a close 4-3 vote the Ottawa Elementary School Board decided to look for bids in geothermal energy for Lincoln Elementary.
The plan is to bring air conditioning to all three elementary schools but Jefferson and Lincoln are covered by Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Funds.
Lincoln Elementary School is not.
Board Member Maribeth Manigold says it would be nice to not think about the age of Lincoln School, however she says that some money would be going into maintaining Lincoln.
Supt. Cleve Threadgill says no matter what the choice was, it was a tough decision.
He says that either decision has pros and cons.
School Architect Bill Taylor says initial estimates show window units for the school would have cost $1.5 million while geothermal would cost around $4.5 million.
