A long awaited project that would keep Ottawa’s Green St. open during floods could be done next year. Mayor Dan Aussem says the city got word of a $3.4 million state grant approval today.

The city must pay for 20% of the cost of raising the street above the floodplain. Since City Hall already had plans drawn, Aussem believes the work can be bid out for next construction season.

Green St. and Main St. are the only two ways in and out of the east side. When the low part of Green St. floods, there’s just one way left. That’s one reason Ottawa High School closes during floods.
