The number of cases going to the Ottawa peer jury since the pandemic began is way down. A normal year might see 80 to 100 cases of kids who’ve broken the law but whose cases are diverted to an alternative to juvenile court. Police Chief Brent Roalson says there’ve been just ten this year so far. Depending on the circumstances, some young offenders go to city court.

The ones who go to the peer jury get judged by other teens and pre-teens who tell them to write apologies and perform community service.
