The cost isn’t estimated yet for a generator for the downtown Ottawa LaSalle County courthouse. It’s to be researched and put in the fiscal year 2021 to 2022 budget. The County Board Property Committee decided last week the generator should go outside the building.
The committee members talked about City Hall not going for that because it won’t look nice in a historic downtown district. Arratta Znaniecki of Ottawa says there are more important considerations.
Property Committee member Joe Savitch says the county needs the generator and shouldn’t worry about looks. Power outages cause expensive problems when computer servers go offline.
The committee also talked about putting the generator inside the building and on the roof. But whatever is to happen, member Charles Borchsenius said the committee must start figuring out what it will be. He says his father ordered a generator for his house and is still waiting for it eight months later.
