The Cubs battled back to tie the Rockies with a four-run fifth but fell 6-5 to Colorado in Denver. Jake Jewell was tagged with the loss. Willson Contreras drove in a pair for the North-Siders, which has dropped seven of its last nine.
The White Sox head to the North-Side to take on the Cubs to start off the Crosstown Weekend Series at Wrigley Field. Lance Lynn of the Sox will face Kyle Hendricks. The pregame broadcast will start at 12:45 with the first pitch at 1:20 on 93.5 and 1430 WCMY.
Cardinals relievers faltered late, giving up six-runs in the eighth inning, in a 8-4 loss to the Braves at Busch Stadium. Giovanny Gallegos was tagged with the loss and the blown save. Andrew Knizner homered for St. Louis, which dropped its third straight. The Cards host the Royals tonight.
The Commission for Chicago Landmarks approved the Cubs plan to build a sportsbook building next to Wrigley Field. The book will be open before, during and after Cubs games. Fans are not required to go to a Cubs game to use the sportsbook service.
Former Chicago Bear Jimbo Covert is finally going into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The longtime left tackle will be inducted tomorrow in Canton, Ohio as a member of the centennial class of 2020. Covert had to wait a year after last year’s ceremony was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The All-Pro lineman helped the ’85 Bears win the only Super Bowl in franchise history.
The Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Dallas Cowboys 16-3 in the NFL Hall of Fame Game in Canton Ohio. The two teams combined to miss three field goals in last night’s performance.

Team USA advances to the gold medal game in women’s basketball after beating Serbia 79-59 in the semifinals.
Alix Klineman and April Ross are striking gold on the beach in Tokyo. The American duo topped Australia in two sets in women’s beach volleyball to take home the gold medals at the 2020 Games. It is the first gold medal for both women.
Keyshawn Davis is advancing to the gold medal fight in the light heavyweight division. Davis won by unanimous decision over his opponent from Armenia in the semifinal and will face Andy Cruz of Cuba on Sunday for the gold medal.
