Last night on WCMY, Michael Taylor’s walk-off single in the 10th gave the Royals a 3-2 win over the White Sox in Kansas City. Liam Hendriks suffered a blown save after giving up a run in the bottom of the ninth and Ryan Burr was tagged with the loss. Danny Mendick recorded the South-Siders lone RBI in the loss. The Sox have dropped five of seven.
The White Sox continue their series with the Royals at Kansas City. Carlos Rodon takes the mound for the Sox. Pregame begins at 12:30 with the first pitch at 1:10 this afternoon on 93.5 and 1430 WCMY.
Zach Davies surrendered four-runs over six-innings as the Cubs fell to the Reds 8-2 at Wrigley Field. David Bote drove in the North-Siders lone RBI in the ninth. The Cubs have dropped two straight to Cincinnati.
Cubs shortstop Javy Báez was fined an undisclosed amount for yelling at the Reds Amir Garrett after he singled off the Cincinnati reliever Monday Night with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth. Baez continued to taunt Garrett on his way to first base.
Kwang Hyun Kim allowed four home runs in the Cardinals 7-2 loss to the Indians in Cleveland. Dylan Carlson homered for St. Louis, which split the two-game set. The Cards host the Twins tomorrow night.
Nolan Arenado is planning to be in the Cardinals lineup tomorrow night against the Twins after being hit by a pitch. Arenado exited early during yesterday’s matinee loss to the Indians.
In the NHL, The Blackhawks signed forward Jujhar Khaira to a two-year contract and defenseman Jake McCabe to a four-year deal.
The 2021 NBA Draft takes place tonight in Brooklyn. The Detroit Pistons will hold the first overall selection in the draft. The Rockets have the second pick in the draft. The Cavaliers, Raptors, and Magic round out the top five.
At the Olympics in Tokyo
American swimming star Caeleb Dressel is taking home his first-ever individual medal after grabbing the gold in the men’s 100-meter freestyle. Dressel finished with an Olympic-Record time of 47.02-seconds, beating the previous mark of 47.05 set by Australia at the 2008 Beijing Games.
The U.S. is taking home the silver medal in the women’s four-by-200 freestyle swimming relay in a race in which the top three finishers bested the previous World Record time in Tokyo. China set a new World Record time to take gold, while the Americans finished four-tenths of a second behind them thanks to a tremendous effort from Katie Ledecky.
Team USA won its first gold medal in the women’s 3-on-3 basketball by beating the Russian Olympic Committee 18-15. It was the competition’s Olympics debut.
