Yesterday our Maggie Frost and Greg Tullis broadcasted from the 8th annual Junior tournament at Pine Hill Golf Club in Ottawa. Winners from the event:
1st thru 3rd graders
- Grady Novotny won for the boys and and Aubree Kovash for the girls
4th thru 6th graders
- Jacob Flaven was the boys winner and Brinley Torres won for the girls.
In the 7th and 8th grade division
- Bryer Harris won for the boys and Delani Duggan won it for the girls.
In the High School Division
- Kiley Torres won the girls varsity title and Peyton Bruck won the junior varsity title.
- Drake Stoudt was the winner for the varsity boys and freshman Seth Cooper finished 1st in the JV division.
Also last night on WCMY, The White Sox fell 4-3 to the Royals in KC. Dallas Keuchel got the loss after giving up four-runs over six-innings. Andrew Vaughn drove in a pair for the South-Siders, which has dropped four of five. Eloy Jiménez made his 2021 debut for the Sox, going 0-for-4 as the designated hitter.
Keep the radio on tonight as the White Sox continue their road series at Kansas City. Dylan Cease will take the mound for the Sox to face the Royals. Pre-game starts at 6:30 with the first pitch at 7:10pm on 93.5 and 1430 WCMY.
Javier Báez’s walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth gave the Cubs a 6-5 comeback win over the Reds at Wrigley Field. Craig Kimbrel earned the win for the Cubs, who have won three of four.
Cubs pitcher Andrew Chafin is reportedly being traded to the A’s. The North-Siders are getting two minor leaguers in the deal, including Greg Deichmann. The deal comes as the Cubs are considering a wide range of scenarios in the days leading up to Friday’s Trade Deadline.
The Cardinals visit the Indians tonight. Adam Wainwright gets the start for St. Louis against Cleveland’s Cal Quantrill. The Cards dropped two of three to the Reds over the weekend.
In the NFL
The Bears traded receiver Anthony Miller and a 2022 seventh-round draft pick to the Houston Texans in exchange for a 2022 fifth-round choice. Miller was selected in the second round of the 2018 draft out of Memphis.
Bears players report to Halas Hall for training camp today. The team is set to begin practice tomorrow.
At the Tokyo Olympics
Women’s gymnastics superstar Simone Biles is out of the Olympics finals now underway in Tokyo after suffering an apparent injury. The world’s number-one women’s gymnast struggled in her vault to open the final, had to leave the floor with a trainer, then initially took herself out of the uneven bars event. She pulled out of the entire team finals a short time later. There’s no word yet on how this might affect her in the individual events. Biles was replaced by reserve Jordan Chiles.
In swimming. Lydia Jacoby captured the gold medal in the women’s 100-meter breaststroke, while fellow American Lilly King grabbed the bronze. Regan Smith won the bronze medal in the women’s 100 backstroke. Ryan Murphy earned bronze in the men’s 100 backstroke.
The United States women’s basketball team held on to win its first game by beating Nigeria 81-72, despite being outscored by 11 in the fourth quarter. The U.S. will play Japan on Friday.
The American women’s volleyball team were straight-set winners against China. The U.S. will play Turkey on Thursday.
