Hacienda Landscaping is in danger of losing its contract for the splash pad, pickle ball courts, playground equipment, and other improvements at Ottawa’s Thornton Park. Mayor Dan Aussem wants to cancel it because the work’s taking longer than the contract says it should. The work isn’t on track to be done by July 26th.

Hacienda Landscaping’s lawyer, John Cooney, says the company has been dealing with unfounded unfair labor complaints. He told the City Council last night, the issue underneath everyone’s complaints is that the employees aren’t in a labor union–yet.

The City Council will meet next Tuesday morning to decide on the contract. That’s after Commissioner James Less’s move to table last night’s vote to cancel it. He and Mayor Dan Aussem got into a testy exchange you can hear in this clip:

Pipes remain to be laid and concrete remains to be poured at Thornton Park.

Concrete forms foretell a walkway at Thornton Park.

This much is done. The Thornton Park wind vane looks as good as ever.
