The lawyer for LaSalle County Republican Party Chairman Larry Smith says Smith has some decisions to make. He didn’t say during a court hearing this morning exactly what those decisions are. But they have to do with an order that Smith pay the court costs and attorney fees in the case he lost against LaSalle County Clerk Lori Bongartz.
Smith claimed Bongartz mishandled ballots on election night in November and caused wrongful wins to go to Illinois House 76th District member Lance Yednock and State’s Attorney candidate Todd Martin. Yednock and Martin are Democrats. Travis Breeden was the Republican challenger in the House race and is running for a House seat again. Republican Karen Donnelly was the State’s Attorney in LaSalle County and lost the race to Martin.
The other side’s asking for attorney fees of around $3,600. Another hearing is scheduled for July 23rd.
