Instead of having to drive across the bridge to Illini State Park to launch a boat, the city of Marseilles will start to build one on Broadway Street.
The city awarded a bid Wednesday to John Pohar and Son’s in Lasalle to start the construction of the boat launch.
Marseilles City Engineer Mike Etscheid says that project is long needed.
He says the Core of Engineers supported it and the IDNR helped with the funding.
He also says that the city is planning to open it later this year.
The boat launch would be would have two lanes and two parking lots, one to allow cars with trailers and another to allow cars without them.
