It costs a lot more for the LaSalle County Recorder of Deeds to do some work than it charges for. The County Board is hiring a firm to do a cost study to justify raising the rates. And those rates could go up by thousands of dollars.

Recorder Karen Miller says for four employees handling a multi-page time share document with 850 units, it costs more than $10,000. But the resort pays less than $100.

Some County Board members asked why a cost study is necessary if Miller already knows the cost. The answer is because the law requires it.
