Some of the masks came off during this week’s LaSalle County Board meeting—after a vote to end the mask, social distancing, and other COVID-19 safety rules. The ordinance suspending the rules says they’ll be back if the state reverts to earlier phases in the recovery plan.
Some board members, including Joseph Witzcak of Peru, say that shouldn’t be automatic.
Member Brian Dose of Ottawa says taking out the automatic provision wouldn’t have made sense. Mike Kasap of LaSalle also argued in favor of keeping it in.
The safety rule suspension affects the courthouses and highway department, but not the nursing home, jail, and juvenile home.
