Last meeting for retiring Seneca High Supt. Carlson

Seneca High School Supt. Jim Carlson has had his last school board meeting. He let the next superintendent, Dan Stecken, do most of the talking last night. Carlson is retiring with 33 years in education behind him. He actually plans to have a few more ahead of him working with kids who’ve dropped out of school.

After a year as the Regional Superintendent for LaSalle County, Carlson became the Seneca High School superintendent nine years ago. He says he feels proud to turn things over to next superintendent Dan Stecken. But Carlson regrets that the pandemic made it hard to mentor Stecken.

Carlson says going into teaching was his first career choice. Being a police officer was his second and he almost went through with it. After a plan change in college and getting two job offers, he decided to go back to college for more studies in education.

Carlson says more in this interview:

We’ll have a story with new Supt. Dan Stecken in the days ahead.
