Eighteen people were evacuated from homes in the area of a south side Ottawa gas leak yesterday afternoon. It took Nicor Gas about three hours to repair it. A contractor hit the pipe in the southwest corner of the McKinley School parking lot at about 3:40pm. A fire truck on its way back from a call couldn’t go back to the south side fire station because the contractor had already put barricades up.
