The Ottawa Fire Department responded to a fire alarm coming from an apartment complex just after midnight.
This happened on the 900 block of Paul Street which is next to the Ottawa YMCA.
In the hallway of the apartments smoke was found and fire fighters were able to contain to just one apartment where it started although it had significant smoke and fire damage.
The fire department says careless smoking inside was the cause of the fire.
No one was hurt and all residents were allowed to return inside after the fire was put out.
