Several fire departments including Oglesby, Lasalle, Troy Grove, and Mendota were called Monday to put out several bales of hay that were on fire.

This happened after 9 pm near Dimmick on 35th road near a gravel lot where cattle are fed.

The Peru Fire Department who also responded said that bales they are packed so tightly that you can’t just put them out with water.

The circular bails had to be pulled apart so the fire departments could put out the fire.

A nearby structure was not affected and no one was hurt.

The reason the fire started is still under investigation.
