Norma Carrera, age 93, of Ottawa, passed away Friday, September 25, 2026 at the LaSalle County Nursing Home after a courageous battle with dementia.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 am Saturday, October 3rd at Gladfelter-Roetker Funeral Home followed by a funeral service at Noon. The Reverend Seamus Enright will officiate. Private interment will be in Oakwood Memorial Park.
Norma was born October 25, 1932 in Ottawa, Illinois to Jake B. and Izell (Thompson) Stewart. She married Samuel A. “Sam” Carrera on August 8, 1952 in Ottawa. Sam preceded her in death December 12, 2012. Norma is survived by her sons, Bob (Marcy) Carrera and Mike (Alice) Carrera of Ottawa; grandchildren Mia (Tyler) Carrera, Clint (Alexis) Carrera and Leslie (Kristen) Fox; and great-grandchildren Avery, Drake, Aubrey, Ella, Trey, Jaxon, Fitz and Camden. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son James “Chico” Carrera; a granddaughter, Emily Carrera Engel; and a brother, Roy Stewart.
Norma retired as an operator for Ameritech and served as the LaSalle County Supervisor of Assessments. Leisure time would find Norma reading or busy with embroidery or crochet. Family was of the utmost importance to Norma. She will be fondly remembered and dearly missed.
