Disabled and elderly Ottawa residents who ride taxis in the city still don’t have to pay anything for taxi rides. But the city is paying more to the cab companies for the rides. The City Council last week approved raising the subsidy rates which are also the full amounts the cab companies charge the qualifying riders. City Attorney Tim Cantlin says the base rate is up by $1 to $8. The extra for longer rides is also up by $1 to $2.
