Gregory Earl Chalus, age 79, of LaSalle, passed away June 7, 2026 at home surrounded by his loving family, whom he taught the values of love, hard work, compassion and understanding.
Prayer service will be 11:30 AM on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at Mueller-Pagani Funeral Home, LaSalle followed by a Mass of Christian Burial 12:00 noon at St. Hyacinth Church, LaSalle, with Rev. J.A. Small and Deacon Steve Gerding, officating. Burial to follow in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Streator. Visitation will be 9:30-11:30 AM Saturday at the funeral home.
Greg was born August 19, 1946 in Ottawa to Marwood and Doris (Herbert) Chalus. He married Andrea (Quaka) Chalus in December of 1967 at St Stephen’s Church in Streator, and together they shared 58 years of beautiful marriage.
He grew up in Waltham Township, where he attended Waltham Grade School and Ottawa Township High School. He attended Illinois Valley Community College, receiving an Associates Degree in Electronic Data Processing in 1966.
He spent his 43 year professional career working as a computer analyst for Jones & Loughlin Steel, LTV Steel, and retired from Accenture Consulting in 2011. He also farmed the Centennial Chalus Family farm for a decade.
He was deeply involved in his community as a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus, a Waltham Grade School Board member for 25 years, and served as a Trustee for St Mary’s Church, Utica.
He was an avid reader, computer guru, WNBA supporter and car show enthusiast who also enjoyed antiquing and fishing.
He is survived by his loving wife, Andrea (Quaka) Chalus; their five children, Kimberly (Michael) Kaschke – Streator, IL, Scott (Mat Layden) Chalus – Sanford, NC, Tim (Dan Klask) Chalus – Saugatuck, MI, Amanda Chalus – Farmington, IL, and Audrey Freeman – LaSalle, IL, and their cherished grandchildren, John (Taylor) Kaschke, Sarah Kaschke, Benjamin Kaschke, Isabel Kaschke, Gretchen Kaschke, and Madalyn Freeman and her father Joe Freeman. He will also be missed by his devoted lapdog Sophie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister; Christine Brown, niece; Heather Ott, and grandsons; Theodore Kaschke and Gavin Freeman.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the donor’s choice.
