Yesterday was a busy day in High School sports.

In baseball

Ottawa dominated Sandwich 14-4 in six innings at King Field.

The Pirates Anthony Cooper was the winning pitcher striking out all six batters he faced in the fourth and fifth.

 

Streator was at home and defeated Wilmington 10-0 in five innings.

Adam Williamson pitched five innings with four hits and nine strikeouts for the Bulldogs.

 

Seneca hosted Woodland and won 6-1 in six innings’

Gage Cryder finished with a single, home run and three runs batted in for the Fighting Irish.

 

Earlville defeated Leland 16-3

 

Over in Softball

Streator completed a two-game sweep of visiting Wilmington with a 9-7 victory.

Jaelyn Blakemore pitched six innings with 4 strikeouts and Jadyn Hansen threw three strikeouts in the final inning for the save. 

 

The Seneca Lady Irish defeated Woodland 11-2

Sam Vandevelde finished with  two homers, scored four runs and drove in four for Seneca, 

 

Serena finished off a win from a rainy Monday over Indian Creek 13-7  and then completed the sweep by beating Indian Creek 12-4.

 

The Ottawa varsity tennis team defeated Morris 3-2.

The Pirates were winners in doubles with the teams of Regan Linde and Sam Walker,  Will Goetz and Tanner Ditchfield and Logan Goetsch and Daniel Reinhardt 

 

The Ottawa JV team also won over Morris 5-0

Winners for the Pirates:

Sebastian Cabrera and Karcin Hagi won in singles. Winners in doubles were Ethan Hancock/Zander Houk The team of Taegeon Eom/Ethan Cela and partners Rylan Salas and Landen Thorsen.

 

The Seneca wrestling team had their home opener last night and defeated Dwight and Morris in a triangular contest.

The Fighting Irish Wrestlers that competed and won their matches:

Gavin Robertson, Gavin Mason, Nathan Elliott , Jaden Casey, Owen Feiner, Asher Hamby, Wilson Widman and Chris Peura.

 

Marquette competed in track and field at Ottawa High School.

Lucas Hoffman won  in the 3200 meters as well as a new personal record in the 400 meter at  54.17 seconds. In total, there were 17 new personal records set by the Crusaders athletes last night.

No results or information was provided by the Ottawa Pirates. 

 

Elsewhere in Sports

Dylan Cease struck out eleven and allowed only one hit in six innings as the White Sox defeated the Reds 9-0 in Cincinnati.  José Abreu had a homer and three runs batted in for the South-Siders. The Sox look to sweep the two-game set today.

 

The Cubs swept a doubleheader with the Dodgers at Wrigley Field. In game one, Kyle Hendricks worked all seven innings in the 7-1 victory.  David Bote’s walkoff single in the bottom of the ninth lifted the North-Siders to a 4-3 win in the nightcap. The Cubs go for the series sweep tonight.

 

The Cardinals and Mets will play a doubleheader today at Busch Stadium after yesterday’s game was postponed due to the rain.  

 

The Blackhawks lost 6-3 to the Hurricanes in Carolina. The Hawks wrap-up their series with the Canes tomorrow night.
