St. Sen. Sue Rezin says it’s “oddly bizarre” that Gov. Pritzker is hardly mentioned in the 48-page report out last week about the coronavirus cases at the LaSalle veterans home. The Morris Republican says that’s either because of his lack of leadership or an intentional omission by the Illinois Department of Human Services Office of the Inspector General. She wants a joint hearing by the Illinois House and Senate Veterans Affairs committees to look further into it.
Gov. Pritzker this week explained hiring Linda Chapa LaVia as director of the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs and then letting her go. He said she seemed like the right person for the job based on her leadership of the Legionnaire’s disease investigation at the Quincy veterans home.
Thirty-six residents of the veterans home died in the outbreak that started at the beginning of November.
