Reacting to the state report on the coronavirus outbreak that claimed 36 lives at the LaSalle veterans home, St. Rep. Tom Demmer says there was a leadership failure. The Dixon Republican says it took ten days for the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs to realize it had a problem and six more weeks for Gov. Pritzker to get the National Guard’s help.

Morris Republican St. Sen. Sue Rezin says the report reveals a lack of direction from the governor’s office and department directors. She says the IDVA didn’t learn from past outbreaks.

Ottawa Democratic St. Rep. Lance Yednock says we owe it to those lost and their loved ones to make sure nothing like the deadly outbreak happens again.

Democratic U.S. Senators Tammy Duckworth and Dick Durbin say they will continue to push for support from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
