A new Bald Cyprus tree has been put into Fox River Park.

Ottawa Tree Board President Brent Barron says how this event has been happening.

He says the tree board has been planting trees for the last 23 years for Arbor Day.

The Bald Cyprus tree is a good tree to have near the park because it’s okay if the Fox River floods.

Barron says that they grown in swamps in Southern Illinois.

Arbor Day started in 1872 when Stanley Morton went to the Nebraska agricultural board and said that there should be a day set aside for planting trees.
