Walter E. Breipohl, 71, of Ottawa, passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2024 at his home.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday January 3, 2025 at the Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa, with Msgr. Mark Merdian of Ottawa Catholic Parishes, officiating. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. on Friday, at the funeral home. Private burial will take place at St. Columba Cemetery.
Walter was born on March 24, 1953 in Ottawa to Eugene and Margaret (Hughes) Breipohl. He was a graduate of Marquette High School, IVCC, and Northern Illinois University. He owned and operated Real Estate businesses where he was a broker, appraiser, developer and property manager. He belonged to, and was active in, a variety of Real Estate Associations.
He also served his community as a member of the board of the Community Hospital of Ottawa, Industrial Development Commission, Greater Ottawa, Inc., Ottawa Area Chamber of Commerce, Illinois Valley Area Chamber of Commerce, Streator Area Chamber of Commerce, Northern Illinois Industrial Development Corporation, Illinois and Michigan Canal Corridor Association and Ottawa Main Street. He was also a member of the Ottawa Boat Club, Ottawa Elk’s, Knights of Columbus, Union League Club of Chicago, the International Club of Chicago, and St. Columba Church.
He is survived by a sister, Marsha (Bruce Bradford) Blunk; nephews, Jon (Melissa) Blunk and Tom (Mara) Blunk; sister-in-law Ruth Breipohl; nieces Ellen (David) Thorp, Sarah (Chase) Wofford, and Susan Reddy; and cousin Al (Peggy) Leslie.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Michael Breipohl.
