Mary Ann Phelps, 79, of Ottawa

Mary Ann Phelps, 79, of Ottawa, passed away Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Ottawa.

According to her wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and no services will be held . Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mueller Funeral Home, Ottawa.

Mrs. Phelps was born February 24, 1945 in Ottawa to William and Harriet (Besse) Newbury. She married Leon Phelps on March 27, 1964 in Ottawa. Mrs. Phelps enjoyed making candy, art projects, crocheting, and knitting. She volunteered at the local elementary schools.

Survivors include her husband, Leon; three sons, Randi (Patty) Phelps, Richard (Julie) Phelps, and Robert (Shelley) Phelps all of Ottawa; seven grandchildren, Haley (Joel) Chandler, Ryan Phelps, Ashley (Edward) Allen, Colin Phelps, Bryce Phelps, Ashlynne Flamingo, and Lindsey Reynolds; three great-grandchildren, Grayson, Maverick, and Millie; and four siblings, Tom Newbury, Pat (Sue) Newbury, Kathy McGill, and Cheri (Robert) Myers.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and three siblings, William Newbury Jr., Sally Dougherty, and Nancy Bowen.

The family would like to give a special thank you to her caretakers, Kari Neurohr, Jamie Rice, Shirley Sater, and Kendra Jobst.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the Breast Cancer Foundation.
