John J. Meyer

John J. Meyer, 93, of Marseilles, passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 25, 2024 at St. Francis Church in Ottawa. Burial will follow at St. Columba Cemetery in Ottawa. Visitation will be held at 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, November 24, 2024 at the Mueller Funeral Home, with the Knights of Columbus in attendance. Additional visitation will be held from 9 to 10:15 a.m. on Monday, at the funeral home.

John was born on January 6, 1931 near Somonauk, IL to Laurence J. and Hazel V. (Reding) Meyer. He worked as a farmer for over 80 years. John married Elizabeth A. “Bette” Bader on February 14, 1953 at St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church in Earlville. He was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church, LaSalle County Farm Bureau, Knights of Columbus – Fourth Degree, LaSalle County Pork Producers, board member and past president of Rutland School, board member of the Farm Credit Association, the LaSalle County 4-H fair board for many years, and a clerk for Rutland Township. John enjoyed wood working, spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, golfing, jigsaw puzzles, sitting on his deck in the sunshine, “His Heaven on Earth.” He loved driving the gator out to the pond with his wife, Bette.

He is survived by his four children, Stephen J. (Debbie) Meyer, David C. (Janet) Meyer, Patricia “Patti” Meyer, Paul R. (Nancy) Meyer; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bette Meyer, on November 25, 2023; his parents, Laurence and Hazel Meyer; and his brother, Leroy Meyer.

Pallbearers will be his grandchildren: Mark Meyer, Katy Meyer, Lauren Brennan, Andrew Nortrup, Daniel Nortrup, Susan Trochlil, Lewis Uhrich and Logan Meyer.

Memorials may be directed to the St. Columba Church Building Fund, Masses, or Reddick Mansion.
