22-year-old Charles Kaufman was pulled over on Rt. 251 and 37th Rd. in Troy Grove Township on Wednesday, July 31. LaSalle County Deputies cited the Mendota man for an expired registration around 3 a.m.

21-year-old Zakary Carlo of Ottawa was arrested Monday, July 29, for unlawful possession of cannabis and leaving the scene of an accident with vehicle damage. Ottawa Police arrested Carlo on Rt. 6 at Titanium Dr.

Ottawa Police arrested an Ottawa man for drunk driving on Tuesday, July 30. 23-year-old Ronald J. Cherry was detained at the Leland St. and Ottawa Ave intersection. Cherry was charged with a DUI, blood alcohol content of .08 or more, illegal transportation of alcohol, leaving the scene of an accident, improper lane usage and failure to reduce speed.

40-year-old Latrice Wright was arrested Wednesday, July 31, on a LaSalle County failure to appear warrant. Ottawa Police arrested Wright at 1440 Columbus St. in Ottawa.

Illinois Valley Community College will host a two-day artificial intelligence, AI, technology summer program as a part of its youth summer camp. IVCC’s AI Cyber Crusaders Camp allows participants to explore the basics of AI, generative AI, program robots, build a chatbot and learn about cybersecurity and online safety. This camp is open to 8 to 12-year-olds and meets Thursday, Aug. 8, and Friday, Aug. 9, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. You can register by calling 815-224-0427 or online at ivcc.edu/enroll. The camp is $49.

Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul reminds Illinois residents, that they are protected from utility service disconnections during hot weather.  A new law protects vulnerable residents from gas or electric utility service disconnections for nonpayment of bills when temperatures are 90 degrees or above, or when the National Weather Service issues an excessive heat watch, heat advisory or excessive heat warning.  Temperatures in parts of Illinois are forecasted to be above 90 degrees in the coming days.

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency is announcing the opening of the first four state-funded electric vehicle charging sites. The sixteen charging ports at four charging sites are located at gas stations in Beach Park, Le Roy, South Beloit, and Troy.  The new sites represent the first of more than 26 hundred public charging sites the Illinois EPA plans to deploy across the State.

A teen is charged as an adult in an April shooting at a post-prom party in Peoria County.  Prosecutors say 16-year-old Amari Smith-Holley was charged with Aggravated Battery with a Firearm.  An 18-year-old was shot on April 28th at the Valley Lakes Center in Chillicothe.  The victim survived but is paralyzed on half of his body.  Deputies identified the victim as a member of the group “Jump Out Boys” and that they were feuding with another group known as the “Snakes.”

The Amateur Trapshooting Association’s Grand American Trapshooting Championships is underway in Illinois.  The premier shooting sports event is being held at the World Shooting and Recreational Complex in Sparta through August 10th.  The Grand American has been hosted at the WSRC since 2006.  It features more than 20 events and attracts more than five thousand competitors and spectators from across the globe annually.

Former President Trump believes he is the best president for the Black population since Abraham Lincoln.  Trump claimed during a combative appearance at the National Association of Black Journalists convention in Chicago.  The former President said he has done so much for the Black population in this country.  Trump also questioned Vice President Kamala Harris’ racial identity, claiming he didn’t know she was Black “until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black.”

The Chicago White Sox are on a 17-game losing streak following a 10-3 loss to the Kansas City Royals at Guaranteed Rate Field. The White Sox scored three runs in the bottom of the second to tie the game at three, but the Royals scored seven unanswered runs to end the game. Andrew Benintendi drove in a pair of runs in the losing effort, and Drew Thorpe was charged with his third loss after surrendering six runs on seven hits in five innings. The Southsiders are in last place in the AL Central at 27-and-84. Chicago visits Minnesota tomorrow night.

The Chicago Cubs avoided a sweep by routing the Cincinnati Reds 13-4 at Great American Ball Park. Chicago rattled off 17 hits during the victory. Seiya Suzuki had two hits and drove in three, while Ian Happ added a two-run home run. Kyle Hendricks picked up his third win after allowing three runs on four hits in five innings. The Northsiders have won three of five, but they remain at the bottom of the NL Central at 52-and-58. Shota Imanaga starts for the Cubs against St. Louis tonight.

The Chicago Bears are set to square off against the Houston Texans in the Hall of Fame Game tonight. The two teams begin preseason play with a game at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio. Former Bears stars Devin Hester, Steve McMichael, and Julius Peppers will be enshrined in Canton this weekend. Bears coach Matt Eberflus has announced that the team’s starters, including rookie quarterback Caleb Williams, will not play in the game. Tonight’s game begins at 7:00 PM.
