(Springfield, IL) — Figures from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics show union membership is at a record low in Illinois, despite surging membership numbers elsewhere. Union membership in the state fell by 23 thousand last year. The conservative policy think tank — the Illinois Policy Institute– reports this followed a drop of 17-thousand the year before. The drop follows a trend in the state, falling from 20-point-eight percent in 1989 to 12-point-eight percent last year.
